Welcome to the Agape Project
We envision a Christ-Centered Coptic Orthodox Church Community that empowers
every congregant to advocate for equality and combat abuse in all its forms.
We believe that the Church must be an open, transparent, and safe environment
that is filled with love, support, and trust between the clergy, the servants, and the laity.

Communication
We are committed to transparent dialogue in our efforts to contribute to a cooperative initiative within
the Church that appreciates
every voice and opinion.
Education
We use audience-specific curricula to improve awareness of bias, foster knowledge of sensitive issues, and promote
a culture of safety.
Empowerment
We stand on the side of justice, supporting the dignity and agency of every member of our congregation
Empowerment
We believe that truth and accountability are necessary elements in the protection of the inherent dignity, safety, and personhood of every member of our congregation.
Compassion
We strive to engage people with empathy, love, and respect, so that we may honor each and every person as an indispensable member of the Body of Christ.
The Agape Project is happy to serve all churches in the New England Diocese in a variety of ways. Here are some ways we can help you move towards an open, transparent, and safe environment that is filled with love, support, and trust between the clergy, the servants, and the laity, and one that combats abuse in all its forms. Here are some ways we can help:
-
Educating parents and servants on sexual abuse prevention and internet safety
-
Consultation in preparation of any lesson on purity, sexual development, puberty
-
Participating in your local servants preparation program with specific attention to safety and “what to look for” when working with children who have experienced sexual abuse
-
Conducting a practical and operation Sunday School Service safety audit
-
Drafting a CORI check for your servants and assisting you in getting it set up
-
Meeting with clergy to serve the congregation’s unique safety needs
-
Review and evaluate outside resources to align with our Coptic Orthodox Church values, while directing servants towards accurate, factual resources to assist them in their preparation
-
Refer congregants to outside mental health resources, when appropriate
-
And more!
